They made some changes in terms of moving slightly away from vanilla text toward adding covers and so on. I wonder if there could be confusion there? I think if a book was going to be extremely controversial, they would probably shy away from adding it in the first place.

NYRB books are decently produced, yeah. I find they hold up better than Penguin Classics with time and use.

The only modernisation I'm aware of with either publisher is in terms of additions: forewords, footnotes. These sorts of things are always going to reflect the mood of the time to some extent. Plutarch gets an intro reminding us not to expose babies on hillsides and so on. Middle English books are sometimes translated to modern English, but that's an industry standard.
