Suppose there are two villages. The denizens of one village only tell the truth, the other only lies. Suppose also that you are at the crossroads of two paths, one leading to the village of the truth-tellers, the other to the village of liars. A man comes along who is from one of those two villages. What question can you ask him to determine which he is from?

I oft wonder: do the people who start these threads actually read books? Do they come here just for the political "discourse"?

I've read Heidegger, Bordieu, Derrida, Sloterdijk, Derrida, Levinas, Barthes, Benjamin, Schmitt, Zizek, Girard, Lacan, Wittgenstein, Quine, Frege, McDowell, Weber, Durkheim, Marx, Foucault, Horace, Juvenal, Baidou, Adorno, Marcuse, Arendt, Gramsci, and all precursors, Proust, Pynchon, Gaddis, Lasch, Hawkes, Dara, even DFW, Barth, Markson, (by now you will understand that I am an American), Rorty, Kripke, Searle, Dreyfus, Eliot, Parquet Courts, Pavement, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Devo, The Clash, No New York and The Stooges. What next? No one is presenting an authentic grounds for a PARADIGM SHIFT worthy of Kant or Plato, and that is what I require.
