I am trying to learn the crazy language that is French and rented the original version of Little Prince from the library. However I think it is still a little too far out of my league. The use of a verb form that is ONLY used in writing and therefore never or rarely taught in textbooks certainly isn't helping, but even besides that the sentences are a little too complex. I am averaging one chapter per night, which is not as impressive as it sounds since a chapter is only 2-3 pages long.

Can /lit/ recommend me any other books I could rent that would be more suited to a beginner skill level? I'm not really up to date on the latest kids' books, let alone French kids' books. I will keep at Little Prince since I am enjoying what I can understand, but even after finishing this I just don't know what to try next. Ideally I want something that is above Dr. Suess tier, but below Little Prince.

This book makes me want to have a kid just so that I can read it to them.

What other books give you this feeling?

I am a huge fan of this book, it's probably one of the best books I have ever read. Anyone got suggestions for books similar to this one?
