I got a bus pass because my car broke down, but I've still been using it after I got my car fixed because I came to really appreciate the hour long ride to work and the hour long ride back where I can read. I mostly read short pulp books that I've picked up over the years like old doc savage books.

I've been reading this one this week though, Rolind of Meru, and it's very refreshing. Instead of presenting a power fantasy protagonist, it's centered around a very emotional, sensitive almost effeminate young man who goes on his journey to find a way to escape his fate of being thrown into violence and becoming king.

I've spent a lot of time projecting my mental images of what I imagine his kingdom of Meru to look like, and I've essentially been envisioning a heightened exaggerated fantasy version of Greco-Bactrian aesthetics of the Diadochi kingdom of Bactria, Hellenized Buddhism in Afghanistan.
