I know that threads like this are useless, and that the fights that they arouse are kind of annoying, but since we don't have one of these in ages, I will make one:

>Who is the greatest writer of all time and of all languages?

Lets just say: if we had to demonstrate the human capacity of manipulate words; tell stories, expose what we are and who we are; create verbal beauty; touch people thorough generations, making them laugh and cry - if we got to chose only one writer to show all this possibilities of literature, who would it be?

Who is the most verbally gifted, inventive, varied and enjoyable writer of all time? Who presents, with a more ample prism, all the colors and expressions of humanity, from agony to ecstasy, from hate to love, from sadness to joy?
