How does one go about outlining a really long-told joke to tell on-stage?

File: 385 KB, 1000x1308, I'm 19 years old and I get to say that (age) without getting banned from this site anymore. I think. (lol zoomer).jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google]

I always find I can make people I'm talking to laugh really hard with ease during conversation when I say something I think is funny.
But when I enter a conversation with that one intent, it's as smooth sandpaper on the ears for both parties. (me and the other person)
(As in I wrote a paragraph of jokes and tried them out on someone)
This sucked, because I wanted to try out stand-up in my nearby city. Because would that not be my intent in that situation?
I was sitting alone in my room talking to myself for a few hours and I thought of a joke that made me laugh really hard. But I noticed that there
was a very long train of thought when it came to it. So I figured I'd write THAT down. (Everything I remembered thinking when I told it to myself.)
I find that when I re-read it, I still lightly chuckle. Is this how it's done? (If I sound retarded, that's because I'm not used to this board's culture,
though I read in the sticky and I'm pretty sure this counts as creative writing discussion. But either way, I'd like to formerly tell you; soory aboot that.)
TL;DR: yo guys, is this how i write funny to b a funny man?
