Hello faithful ones.

How do you start reading the Bible? I thought it makes sense to start from the beginning of it all, Genesis, but I've heard some suggest John.

I've never read the Bible before, which version is the best?

What even is the point of the old testament? You really only have to read the new one

Romans 8:31-39

>What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
>He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
>Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
>Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
>Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
>As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
>Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
>For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
>Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

there is only one book you ever need to read; anything more is simple pretension.

Is there anything I should use alongside reading the Bible in order to fully understand it? It seems like some people go really hard in Bible study but I have never read it so I dont quite understand.

What are some things in the bible that surface level christians/normies dont understand?

for me its the idea that creation(adam and eve) isn't what physically happend but a parable to simplify things for people who didnt have the education or were able to comprehend complex existential thoughts. Even the idea that heaven and hell are metaphors for living with and without god

Hey /lit/,

So I've decided I wanna read The Bible but I don't want to read all of it because from what I understand there's a lot of superfluous stuff in the old testament. I don't wanna hear about the lineages of Adam and Eve and random plagues and shit, I'm far more interested in the teachings and philosophy presented. So what books do you think I should read? I remember a post which said that Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Job and the four Gospels are the most essential. But would you recommend me to read any others or even to read all of it? If it helps, ultimately I'm reading it to get a better understanding of Christianity and because the Bible underpins a huge number of classic books.

Thanks guys
