it is not "culture" so much that capitalism is a "culture". without going into quasi-religious comparison such as >>10905439 but entertainment and virtue filled heroes are what people are going to idolize of what makes a strong person. But they never explore the grey areas of morality, because for the most part like villains and heroes., its black and white and easy to stand on the same side as those who are championed.

But geek culture isn't so much predicated on just watching or reading comics and such, its being spurned as "LE SCIENCE IS EPIC XDDD" meanwhile 90% of them are scientifically illiterate and industrial capitalism encourages this overconsumption of Netflix originals, Marvel and Disney films coming out every week and a compulsion to keep buying in order to stay up to date.

I know several friends who have almost gone bankrupt because of the over excessive consumption of exclusive video game bundles, movie tickets, a litany of merchandise and other accouterments that eclipse any semblance of personality. You can enjoy all those things, and still be a functional human but the "culture" rests on constant information constant watching without any real though
