I'm trying to improve my French. I can read most authors but I tried Flaubert today and didn't really understand much, lots of vocabulary I've never seen before. I hate having to use a dictionary so often.

Unironically the german naturphilosophie. From paracelsian alchemy to böhme, hölderlin, schelling and hegel. Everything went to shit since the germans lost the ww1 and the western world turned into soulless anglo world and severed from the german mysticism. This material world is the living divine reality in which the sacred is striving for its incarnation, but you are brought up into a culture which teaches you from the childhood to see it as mindless particles bouncing around for no purpose.
