This is an excellent study of progression fantasy and character writing. Most authors use that first book to feel out where they want to go, but this book and its tethers into book 2 are so cleanly executed. Really something to aspire to in terms of system and world building. I teared up during the ending fight and overall conclusion.

Must've been Cradle, right? Everyone sees how spectacularly it does so they seek to emulate the formula. A few years later and you can't go 5 steps before stumbling over his fucking name. Especially since he absorbed all of this narration and said to himself 'me can write too'. I've heard little about Legends and Lattes but I'm sure it was a wild success in that community.
