reading actual books:
>your brain makes connections itself
>engage directly with the author's thought process
>retain information longer
>pick up on subtleties that are omitted from summaries such as symbolism or themes
>chance of discovering something no other reader has before
>better prepares you for engaging with more difficult works in the future

reading a summary:
>contains bias for or against the author
>brain does not engage with anything
>easily forgettable
>zero chance of discovery
people who read just summaries are easily manipulable and unable to present counter-arguments or detect lapses in logic.
