Is / has anybody here avoided a full-time "career" and sacrificed the sort of comforts associated with said career for the sake of dedicating yourself to writing?

If so, how old are you and what do you do for rent etc?

Where do you guys host your work online?

Blogs are dead, tumblr sucks. What else is there?

If you were working an unfulfulling office job that left you with four or five hours of semi-focused free time a day, in a city which ate up most of your wages, and were having your first book published, what would you do? Would you quit and move to a less expensive city where you can work way less hours and write more, or continue to live / work in that environment?
