Which translations of The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Iliad and The Odyssey should I read?

I'd tried the Fagles version of Iliad but it's a little too poetic, and it becomes hard to understand. On the other side, the Stanley Lombardo version is extremely easy to understand.

Is there some benefit to reading the Fagles translation over Lombardos'?
