I'm a night shift security guard at a 5 star hotel, I've been doing security for about 6 years now just got into hospitality. I can tell you that this job is brain dead easy with great money and benefits. The big catch with security in general is your coworkers, if you work night shift and some jerk off calls out in the morning more than likely you're pulling a double, some are ex cops or military that think security is an "operation" and it turns an easy job to an uptight slog. Like I said its so brain dead easy that I'm leaving the job looking for something new that actually has me doing something with my time. Also adjusting to working nights sucks.

Not that person, but it will all make sense in time, you need to read the rest of the books. I don't want to say the side characters subvert expectations, but they unironically do subvert expectations. And I actually really liked Severian as a MC.

If you don't pick up on this by the end of the fourth book then Urth of the New Sun practically hits you over the head with it.
I haven't re-read Urth yet but I need to, a lot of it went over my head, I fear. I've got the audiobook I mean to listen to.

I absolutely love Book of the New Sun; I've read it twice and listened to the audiobooks. I noticed a lot of things I missed on the second read. I had no problem at all finishing the books, but I bought a copy of Shadow of the Torturer for my friend a couple of years ago and he's still not read more than a third of it.

Got offered another 2 free books from Audible if I sign up for a free trial. As you probably know, they're yours to keep even when you unsubscribe. I was about to cancel the subscription and they're like "wait, if you don't unsubscribe we'll give you one more free audiobook!" Dumb Jews, still 3 audiobooks for nothing, that's not bad at all. I spent my credits on Book of the New Sun (I already had Shadow of the Torturer). I've read the series twice already but I wanted to listen to it in bed as well.

The Painted Man needs to be in the top row. So much rape (some of it incest), so much fucking rape in a single book. The main character is also such a giant edgelord. I don't usually drop books but I stopped reading that one. Wish I could delete it from my memory, I fucking hated it.

I dont really have a preference, the sci fi stories that I like (BOTNS, Dune etc) are pretty much the most gripping stuff out of what Ive read but at the same time I can instantly recognize that I like them for other reasons and the sci fi coverings are merely something that enhances them for me. I prefer stories with a heavy focus on a genuinely interesting and meaningful main character, especially with grander (like theological) themes.

Book of the New Sun. Set in the far future, swords and robots coexist, written in a dense gothic style, the main character fucks/rapes anything he can get his hands on, giant monsters under the seas, genetically engineered horses that can run 100 miles an hour, brainwashed commie slaves that can only speak in state approved sentences, starships bigger than solar systems. If it wasn't directly taken from the comic book, I would say that movie was heavily influenced by New Sun.
