It seems really hard to get a good mix of people who are both smart and don't take themselves too seriously to congregate in the same place online. Imageboards have come the closest in my experience. Not in every thread or on every board or every day; but often enough to keep me coming back. Maybe the horrifying truth is that we can never come any closer to that ideal than what we already have.

HTML Giant and a shit ton of other shitty blogs that the lifeblood shut down almost laterally in the wake of the rape allegations. I can't recall if any of them specified what they were shutting down for but it was pretty obvious since it all came crashing down within a month of the allegations.

I don't know what the NY alt-lit "scene" is like anymore, since I wouldn't associate myself with those hack frauds for all the publishing deals in the world, but I'm fairly confident after all those "alt-lit is dead" articles, nobody calls their stuff alt-lit anymore, even if it's identical to the alt-lit they produced before.
