It appears as if their central goal is to end suffering, which suicide supposedly doesn't achieve because you'll just reincarnate poorly and suffer even more. Do they still work if reincarnation isn't an element?

This guy had a phobia of being buried alive or locked in a room by someone stronger than him and develeoped literally the biggest cope ever. He imagined himself to be invisible, able to fly and go through walls, and called himself enlightened because he found a way out of every hopeless situation a human could have, "just fly through the wall bro". It's laughable, to say the least.
