No, this isn't an RPG. Nobody's going to give you an enchanted sword because you did the right thing.

Does anyone have any legitimate writing tips? My creative writing professor is a dumb, old boomer who literally published one book that didn't sell any copies. The entire class is pretty much fed up with him. All he's done is teach us really trite, banal stuff like:

1.) every sentence must either advance plot/theme/character or be funny
2.) writing out passages of our favorite author by hand to learn prose
3.) memorizing passages we like to internalize them

This motha fucka hasn't actually taught us how to write anything or given one specific, concrete piece of advice. Like, how do I advance plot? What makes a good character? How do I interweave theme and symbolism into my story? And more importantly, I want to develop my own original voice, not copy other authors. I feel like I wasted an entire year. I should have stopped after the first sememster.
