I've had a kindle touch for close to 7 or 8 years (maybe 10, I don't remember exactly) and I've never had any real problems with it. PDFs and things where formatting beyond page breaks, indentations, stanzas, etc. suck, but I like it for novel or just books that are supposed to be read linearly.
Maybe if you could get one used for like 20 bucks it would be great but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it outside of that specific case. I paid the new 100 bucks for it near launch.
