It's actually incredibly that you people are seething outside of /sffg/.

Thank you for popularizing Bakker.

For the ones who don't know the author; Start with the Darkness that Comes Before.

I used to be pissed but not having GoT made me find this which is better, even if the second series drags a bit. Now will Bakker ever write the promised third series, The No-God, who knows. It's been a few years since he went silent.

What do I read after this?
I don't think I'll ever read anything in fantasy that will beat this.

I'm really struggling to leave genre fiction behind and embrace new types of books.

Just finished this, and holy shit. I don't think I've ever read a fantasy series this good in my entire life.

I don't even post here that often, but what are your thoughts about this?

Being emotionally dead and fully logical is the best though.

This has a group of people breeding purely for intellect for two thousand years and perfecting dialectics to gain the Absolute. Hegel would be proud.

Anasûrimbor Kellhus

The Darkness That Comes Before is true literature. On the one hand epic fantasy/sci-fi of the highest tier, and on the other an exploration of Blind Brain Theory that makes it a solid philosophical work. Nothing else in the genre comes remotely close.

The biggest success is having such an utterly alien character/villain/hero in Khellus and the other Dunyain.

The internal monologue of The Survivor is like reading Hegel while on LSD.

It's a fair question. You will only know if you give it a try. He's my favorite fantasy writer.

These books unironically made me appreciate/understand faith as well as renew my scepticism of rationality.

What are some fantasy or scifi books that are good? Or not awful like almost all of them? I've read The Book of the New Sun and Blindsight, I liked them despite some misgivings but I felt this was better in pretty much all respects, even if they have more interesting settings in play.

Which covers are you talking about?
The Prince of Nothing paperbacks had a very beautiful and unique aesthetic, IMO. Wish they'd kept this general layout for the Aspect Emperor covers.

The Second Apocalypse Saga by R. Scott Bakker, consisting of the Prince of Nothing Trilogy and the Aspect Emperor Tetralogy.
Think Dune meets Lord of the Rings.
It is the logical conclusion to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Genres.
