I like episode two of "all watched over by machines" where he compares the inadequacies of free markets to the inadequacies of californian/cybernetic ideologies that believe that through technology we can bypass representative democracy and attain some kind of direct democracy. It was pertinent when it was released as it totally lambasted some of the ideas behind the occupy movement about a month before occupy wall-street.
I found it the most relevant to todays current predicament.

but.....he complains about politicians having no progressive ideas anymore and doesn't offer any prescriptive ideas of his own.....bit of a cop out.

Hey lads, lets not rely on portraits alone in this thread about obscure authors. I don't know what any of the authors I read look like so I certainly won't know an author I haven't read and your refusal to just name your file or pop down to the comment section and give his or her name a quick type-out is quite frustrating. Please use the following greentext as an example:

>Richard Brautigan

Together we can make /lit/ a more pleasant place to inhabit.

Richard Brautigan shot himself with a magnum following declining interest in his books. People accuse him of not being able to grow up but his last few works were, in my view, deeply cynical and hyper-self aware. Sombrero Fallout especially seemed to say, 'the writing is better when I am not even involved.'

Anyway, he was a big part of my adolescence and I've never quite been able to let him go.

Richard Brautigan. From what I understand, Murakami has mentioned him as an influence.
