Daily reminder that the first "official" mention of the 6 million figure was in the Nuremberg trials in 1945 but even before that the 6 million figure appears dozens of times in different newspapers and articles even predating to the 1800's. That being said, the Auschwitz death toll was changed in the 90's from 4 million to 1.1 million, Majdanek death toll was revised from 2 million to 78,000 and somehow the 6 million figure never changes even after all that revision...
