This is a perhaps an objection to the argument as stated (it was stated by a brainlet), but not a good objection to the actual argument. I'll be up front with you: I still don't know if the argument actually works: I don't know if there is a God. But the argument, like most of the arguments for God is not something which can be waved away with the objection "what caused God?" You need to actually deal with it and think about it before dismissing it: I trust that you are a rational inquirer, so I trust you don't want to straw-man your opponent's position.

Anyway, the Aristotelian cosmological argument never says that everything has a cause, but rather says that whatever changes from potentiality to actuality has a cause for this change. If the argument succeeds in demonstrating the necessity of a pure actuality, then the "what caused God" objection doesn't hold water. As for the universe objection: sure! Call the being demonstrated through the cosmological argument "The Universe": names don't really matter. But keep in mind that if the argument succeeds, "The Universe" is going to have the same divine attributes as "God" (as the philosophers understand God).

The argument doesn't prove a personal or a christian God, anon, so it isn't like the Christian can lean too much on the philosophical arguments, if that is what you are worried about.
