Carl Sagan's Cosmos, yay or nay? Is the book the exact same thing as the show? Even so, I think I'd understand better by reading it.
Is there a more effective and informative starter book out there? I'm kind of interested in the subject but not enough to dive into a sea of esoteric terminology for 1000 pages either
Also feel free to let me know if it's way too pleb and watered down in order to perhaps point me in a more sophisticated direction. I've neither seen an episode nor flipped through the book so I'm pretty clueless about how elaborate the content is...

Is Cosmos considerable as a religious work?

It invokes the same sense of awe as traditional religious literature, but the basis is absolute fact.

This is one of my favorite books. It follows the show pretty closely, but it goes more in-depth on things, and it`s eloquently written as well.

It covers the scientific tradition that developed (and was subsequently extingueshed) in ancient Egypt and Greece, and asks some pretty good what-ifs. Stupid dark ages. Anyway, get the hardcover edition will full colour pictures if you can.

Cosmos discussion:
I thought it was an ass hat move to include undertones that there was a creator, but despite that good book.

I wanted so badly to love this book. I wanted to pore over every page, learn everything it had to offer. I wanted it to be the best book I ever read. But I only made it about halfway before I just lost interest.

Am I just stupid, /lit/?
