Good books for plebian literature casuals?

I recently read sophies world, which was great, and then the (very) short story 'Regeneration', and am now looking for something new to read. Can be anything really although preferably history or philosophy, and nothing that an idiot couldn't understand. (For perspective I found 'Crime and Punishment' indecipherable, so this should probably give you a general idea of what I can(not) understand)

Sorry in advance for possibly being a retard/lit casual

I'm considering taking an A-Level in philosophy, so the teacher suggested I read two book and make my decision then, the first book is 'Sophie's World' by Jostein Gaardner, the other one is called 'Regeneration'. My problem is that I'm not sure which book called regeneration he was talking about, there are obviously many, after reading the blurbs of two I know that one is about the war, and another about a girl who discovers her clone and poses philosophical questions about it. I would guess that he was speaking of the second one, but others have told me that it was probably the first that he meant.

Any ideas? I have only a week or so to read it so I'd like to find out as soon as possible which one it is

Also, any recommendations of other easily digestible books with a philosophical theme?

Thanks!

Does this book read more like a novel or more like a work of non-fiction simply veiled thinly as fiction?

hello /lit/. long time.

after reading wittgenstein and getting totally pissed off at the fact that it was a bunch of math equations i decided to take a break on philosophy before i started over again from square one. i enrolled in an intro to philosophy course that i'm taking this semester although the professor thinks he's from dead poet's society and just tells us about loving life all the time, so that's hardly a help. anyway i asked him on the first day of class what he'd recommend me reading as an overview and he told me to read this book.

i've been reading it and as far as i can see it's a pretty good summary of philosophy up until now. i'm about halfway through. i was wondering what you guys think of it. by definition it's babby's first philosophy, i admit, but i think it lays down a good framework for getting more in depth in any topics you might find interesting.

tl;dr: thoughts on this book?

Finished reading this yesterday.
Worst piece of shit i've ever read.Unless you are 10 years old , don't read it. Read REAL philosphy. Also, mistakes everywhere. The guy doesn't even know what pantheism means.

If you want a pretty basic historical point of view of philosophy, you might want to try Sophie's World. Though it was originally aimed to educate young adults, it really gets the job done, and does it in such a way which draws the reader in.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. Tells the story of a young girl while interweaving the history of western philosophy. Entry level at its best.
