The short answer, it's simply easier for me to write from a female character's point of view. There really isn't any other [American gender politics] reasons here.
The long answer is related to the concepts I'm using within the story, which is disillusionment and loss/abandon of identity in order to ascend to higher levels of existence and purify one's essence/soul. Basically as long as you are firmly attached to the particularities of your mortal existence, you won't be capable of ascending towards a higher, above mortal existence. As spoilery as it is towards the story overall, Ssyba won't always be stuck in the body of a lowly female nanza-cat. As she ascends to higher and higher levels of existence, her identity will be shed like an old cloth and replaced to further reflect her advancement.
