University library. Brilliant, huge, love being there. Realize I've never been to the bottom floor.

It's an archive that is nearly all mechanical. There are no people on this floor. Shelves slide and disappear behind each other along slides and beltsr. It is dark here and there are small red lights on each shelf next to an interface to the move the shelf. Constant buzzing and humming against loud but smooth clanks.

Sections are made with chaink-link fence. I have no idea.

In the very back there is a alley on the right, and in there is a lone chair against a wall and a spot light, facing me. This is the only chair here.

From what I can tell only the idiots think they have religious experiences or something like that.

They instead just have their reality changed a bit. They didn't think they could experience life in the way acid affected them.

It's like people saying go travel in order to "find yourself". Both cases are thinking that your bubble of infancy will be shattered by "reality" hitting you while traveling or doing drugs.

It's pretty stupid.

It's fun but I wish it would have been better.

You get to do some ok detective work that is pretty shallow but still fun. The pay off like others have said is small but it's not that taxing so it's ok.

The actual writing is ok. When they start exploring the house it's pretty nice.

Some sections I just didn't read, mainly the pages of lists of objects. Really kills the flow of the book with those kind of interruptions.

Holden was a liar and constantly went back and forth on subjects he felt very dear about. He was confused and young. It would be difficult to say how he would have been in the late 60's, he probably would have at the most been in his early 20's so he should have changed somewhat by then.

The book however certainly had an effect on the hippie generation. Mark Chapman is just one example and the book was popular then.

Thinking in blacks and whites on such a vague topic might be a symptom of that. We can probably agree on some objective facts about the craft and technique of the work which is related to its meaning, but many things are not directly spoon fed to the reader and have to be interpreted. Some interpretations are weaker and stupider than others.
