is this what Nietzsche meant when he talked about how the Overman isn't limited by the conventions of his time.

What happens when you take a more hedonistic, utilitarian, or pleasure-seeking philosophy and replace "pleasure" with "fun"? They each seem equally worthy of occupying that position but they don't seem like the same thing. What changes, or just what's the difference between the words for you?

A Scottish-descended hermit has his isolated homestead in the marsh unwantedly housing a number of wounded Confederate soldiers and displaced civilians. When he leaves to confront the man behind the order, he's told that he and his home will be left alone if he can bring the officer a southern belle who has never been let outside of her plantation house. At the start of his journey out of the marsh he discovers a runaway slave who he pities, and lets accompany him on the trip.

Think a mix of Don Quixote and Mark Twain.

/lit/ I need insight and recommendations.
What makes a work of fiction magical to you? What makes it enthralling to the point you find yourself thinking about it often?

What books have moved you this way, fiction only. I need new material for my comics and animation but don't know what fiction is really worth reading. I made the mistake of reading anthem as a result of my ignorance on the matter. Hopefully your experience can help me, and save me a lot of time. It would be truly appreciated.

>top 100 books
I don't get what these lists are implying. If you need to read 100 books, odds are you probably aren't getting anything out of them. you could probably do just fine reading 5 or 6, as well as enjoying other forms of media, such as the internet, movies and anime. I can understand 100 years ago, the appeal of books, especially if you lived in isolation. That's not to say pretty much any valuable lesson contained in these stories hasn't, allegorically speaking, been rehashed and seen in media throughout your life, and that you simply haven't picked up on it. The answer of course is to then be mindful and aggressively seek out the kernels of wisdom all around us instead of looking for them only in books. In that sense, there is no real reason to read all of those books except for novelties sake.
