wtf did I just read?

I just finished the book an hour ago, the mother's letters in the appendix were compelling (the coded message was especially hard to read) and the way he messed with page structure was a neat gimmick. I did like that while the characters were getting lost in exploration #4 I was getting lost in a maze of footnotes. I think it was a little more longwinded than it needed to be though.

I just finished this and I'm confused. Was there a monster? If not, then what killed Zampano? Towards the end, there's a three page story about a baby and it doesn't seem to be related to Johnny or the Navidsons. Does it mean anything? What was the point of the Minotaur? Was it just another delusion of Zampano? I have so many more questions about Johnny but these are first to come to mind.

I got recommended this piece of trash, I don't understand why people like it. It's entire shtick is just having weird writing.

Currently reading House of Leaves. I've seem many people say it's too pseudo-intellectual and relies too much on gimmicks but I'm enjoying it so far. Might re-read Revelation Space as well, really enjoyed that the first time through.

I loved this book and the Fifty-Year-Sword too. But I've heard mixed things about his other books. Anything else of his worth reading?
