Jesus Christ, this fucking thread.

I've seen this thread 6 billion times before and it always plays out exactly the same way no matter which board it's on.

Someone makes a sexist comment, someone will take issue with it, be accused of whiteknighting to get laid, meanwhile the other 300 posts consist of gb2>>>/pol/ or gb2>>>/reddit/.

How about we don't be complete arseholes and discuss things for a change? Personally, I've met a lot of people, male or female, who choose one particular medium over all others as their "thing". Why do people do this?

Lmfao, you're still trying to impress people even when condemning this whole fucking thread.
I wanna actually discuss some books in a worthwhile way, and I doubt you'd even do that on a regular thread.
I'm the fag from >>2706221 I actually tried to start conversation. You could've tried to actually talk about something instead of exploding with rage for no reason.

Top-notch post.

Good evening /lit/,

This is going to be a bit of a rant but I hope to put some interesting stuff in.

I come here today to talk of incompetence and how prevalent it is among my peers. I'm a senior in High School, the high school I attend was ranked somewhere near #63 in the country (USA) last year, so its a pretty damn good school. The thing is that, day to day, I'm surprised society works if WE are way up at #63.

I'm currently in a senior only english class and the first book we are reading this semester is "Of Mice and Men". Don't get me wrong, its a good book I like a good deal of Steinbeck's writing but the fact that I'm the only one who has read this book (and in 7th grade at that) is frankly, troubling. It's not a hard book. There are maybe three words in the whole thing I don't know but apparently people here don't know any of them. Evident in the fact that the have trouble reading it out loud. Which is another problem I have with these imbeciles! They can't read a sentence properly. They don't know where to put emphasis or when to stop or speed up. They can't take cues from the author and they don't even attempt to put emotion and variety in character's voices. It would seem to me that I'm the only one that reads for pleasure and if that is not true I'm CERTAINLY the only one who reads worthwhile books for pleasure.

AND THATS JUST MY ENGLISH CLASS! Don't get me started on the kids in my math and economics classes. Geography? Out the window! We don't even offer a geography class.

Tell me /lit/ am I the only 18 year old who enjoys reading difficult thought provoking books and magazines and not being a shit head pot smoker? Instill some hope in a young mans heart that the world is not doomed.

Picture VERY related.

> The closing passage from King's "I Have a Dream" speech partially resembles Archibald Carey, Jr.'s address to the 1952 Republican National Convention. The similarity is that both speeches end with a recitation of the first verse of Samuel Francis Smith's popular patriotic hymn "America" (My Country ’Tis of Thee), and the speeches share the name of one of several mountains.[9] Carey’s speech ended: "We, Negro Americans, sing with all loyal Americans: My country 'tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, Land of the Pilgrims' pride From every mountainside Let freedom ring! That's exactly what we mean--from every mountain side, let freedom ring. Not only from the Green Mountains and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire; not only from the Catskills of New York; but from the Ozarks in Arkansas, from the Stone Mountain in Georgia, from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia--let it ring not only for the minorities of the United States, but for the persecuted of Europe, for the rejected of Asia, dis(en)franchised of South Africa and for the disinherited of all the earth--may the Republican Party, under God, from every mountainside, LET FREEDOM RING [10]

> Keith Miller, in Voice of Deliverance: The Language of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Its Sources and elsewhere,[11] argues that such "borrowing", which he terms "voice merging", follows in a long tradition of folk preaching, particularly in the African-American church, and should not necessarily be termed plagiarism. On the contrary, he views King's skillful combination of language from different sources as a major oratorical skill.
