In this thread, I will be attempting to debunk a common atheist talking point using enlightenment philosophy. Here is the argument below and then a response.
>If god is real and he is just/benevolent, then why would he allow the world to be so cruel?
“We live in the best of all possible worlds” - Gottfried Wilhelm

Gottfried believed that before creation, the almighty god contemplated every possible way that he could design the universe, and that he chose this one because it was the best. You’re probably wondering how anyone could possibly believe something like this. You might ask, “Why couldn’t god create a better universe, where there was no suffering?”

The answer is simple. Although god could have created a “better” world in which nobody ever did any evil acts, he chose not to because that would require humans to be stripped of all free will. While it’s true that in a world with free will, man would technically have the ability to do evil as well as good (resulting in the world we have today) god came to the conclusion that the alternative, a world with no free will and no individuality, would be far worse and would not be fit for humans. He did not want us to be slaves, so he gave us free will knowing full-well what the consequences would be. It’s because of this that we have so much suffering in the world, but don’t feel betrayed, for god has given us the best possible world that still allows for us to have some level of freedom and individuality.

What would be your response to Gottfried’s argument?

Why do people post Nietzsche when he was pre-establishedly BTFO by Leibniz?

Anyone have recommendations on what to read in order to tackle Guenon's Metaphysics of Infinitesimal Calculus? Is his other stuff necessary and is a solid foundation in infinitesimal calculus necessary?
