Granted it's not exactly completely realistic, but it clearly draws from many real-world cultures and creates a believable setting. You won't learn the daily plight of the average serf in the middle ages, but you at least get to spend a little time thinking about and observing how armor is worn, how men at arms drill, what sort of food is prepared, what people besides warriors do with their lives, etc. It's no history book, but it doesn't feel like it's lying to you about details just for the convenience of the story. And there is a minimum of fucking macguffins and coming-of-age bullshit, so it appeals to me. Cool pic btw, here's a mean helmet
