Coming of age story in a small south eastern Kentucky town in 1994. (Young people without being YA) protagonist falls into the basement of an abandoned bourbon distillery and smashes open the coffin of a young female vampire (not a love interest) locked away in 1890 by her own father. MC plays the role of “renfield” to her Dracula and the two decide how to cohabitate despite their differences. There’s alcohol and drug use, a pair of dangerous and desperate bank robbers, pill addled wiggers looking for an easy score, a feral nudist girl named Mary, and the blossoming of youth in a time and place of simplicity. I’m 78 pages in. Should be done by spring. A chronologically accurate Music soundtrack supports and enriched the overall feel and story.
