Favorite novel thread? First time ever on /lit/, so not sure if this thread is already on here somewhere.

It's a tie between "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" (Joyce) and "Foundation" (Asimov) for me.

Totally opposite to one another, I know, but I have to thank Asimov for getting me into reading several years ago. To this day I still have a soft spot for sci-fi.

I know you don't do this, /lit/, but I'm desperate. I have an essay that's worth 30% of my grade due tomorrow on James Joyce's "A Painful Case" from The Dubliners.

I've written very rough outlines and have been doing my close readings, but have left the actual writing until today.

Well, my roommate got me sick and now it's taking everything I can to not throw up on my computer, let alone write an essay. I was wondering if someone could help me. I'm not asking anyone to write my essay, but just nudge me in the right direction. Please.

What are your thoughts on "A Painful Case" if you've read it? How do you think Joyce's use of metaphors help create Duffy's character? What do you think of the statement it makes about relationships?

I have a tentative thesis, but I know it's absolute shit. Basically, I want to say that Joyce uses metaphor to emphasize Duffy's need for routine and isolation (pictures as memories, etc.). I also want to comment on the doomed nature of relationships.

The essay only has to be 4-5 pages, so I don't think I really need to comment on much else.

Again, I'm sorry for this. I'm just desperate. Thanks if you even made it this far.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day.
Great Irish literature, anyone?
Joyce and Wilde are two of my favorites.
Also, Irish mythology.

Do you have any friends? I don't. People have made efforts to be my friend, nice people, but my social anxiety/retardation prevented me from keeping contact with them.
