From the pieces of Sunflowers I've read off Watt's site, they're a bit disjointed (but I suppose for a collection of short works what can you expect), but it's still got that eerily unnerving tone you can expect from Watts.

I recommend his collection of stories Beyond the Rift, which has loads of great stories including one from the Sunflower Cycle. Also re-read Echo in a year or two, trust me on this.

This is pulled right out of my arse but the main theme or at least the idea of Echopraxia in my opinion is Watts trying to redeem his beloved, deeply religious now dead father (even if Pete doesn't realise it himself). He desperately strains his referencing and hard scifi abilities to try and synthesise a realistic model of God and faith, and uses it to create a sequel to his most-loved book yet.
See his father's eulogy here: http://www.rifters.com/crawl/?p=3917
Like I said this is pure fiction at this point, and sorry if you're reading this Pete. I also think Blindsight is essentially a response to Watt's general hate/love relationship with humanity and it's institutions as a whole, as they tear away his precious ecosystems and climates. The man's a hippy biologist, with opinions you'd expect.

Also in defence of Echo, it's very different to Blindsight and Watt's did do a tremendous job letting it stand on a different podium, with wildly different themes and ideas. Also there's some nice thematic differences, Siri's posthumanism and Bruk's baseline-ness. Thesius heading out to the cold, The Crown going into the hot (thank you reddit AMA). Also, Blindsight seems to occupy itself fully with INSIDE, with perception, consciousness, the brain. Echopraxia focuses on the OUT, the universe, it's limits, its purpose.

Also when's the animation coming out?

it's like a more coherent and steady version of dude, with all the majestic mythical shit but in a much tighter narrative, with excellent worldbuilding, characters and an overarching plot between (what is essentially) a few short stories.

Fall of Hyperion gathers controversy but I felt it was an excellent conclusion to the narrative of the first book. Endymion duo are shit
