The thing is he's not even a pseud, he's a qualified and published psychologist and linguist so I'm sure he's not an idiot and has read his fair share of philosophy. It's just that the left props him up endlessly because he appeals to their love for "end of history" Whiggish narratives. Even after all that's happened these last few years they like him because he can goad us into thinking we have no reason to despair and that we're actually living in the best times ever (which by some metrics is true of course) and that everything is getting better, so don't complain.

It's a pretty common strategy he's been using for years really:

>Pinker shows up with new book or through some kind of interview/public platform to remind us that everything's improving

It's just his schtick, really. I bet he probably doesn't even genuinely believe a lot of what he says at this point, but this is what he's made a name for himself doing. And I'm sure he's not going to stop because it keeps giving him money and publicity.
