I can! Freaking loved this series.

(Don't watch the movie, though, the movie is crap.)

Although initially appearing to be a typical young adult/'kid' (and I use that term lightly holy shit do these books get violent) fantasy series featuring cute 'talking animals' and their adventures with a rather bizarre dedication to biological facts about the various animal species therein, it quickly evolves into a narration of World War II politics set against a backdrop with questions regarding magic and humanity that are never quite fully answered.

...there's also a spin-off series about the dire wolves from the book too but I admit I haven't read that.
