tried reading some borges. damn he is up his own ass, but the concepts are cool

do translators go out of their way to use the most pretentious descriptions possible? anyways, how about more lit like borges but doesnt smell its own farts as much. kafka was cool other than not finishing his shit

Borges is the goat of short stories

Personally I thought it was terrible. Lame concept, bland characters, social commentary as subtle as a brick through a glass window. Felt like it was just jerking itself of over how great books are.

Ok it's so hard getting a fucking answer to this question online for some reason

If I buy Ficciones and The Aleph is there any reason to buy this book? does it just collect some of the stories in the aforementioned collections or is there additional material?

I own pic related and the new decker edged Penguin edition. Are either worth the read?

ok I see your point. I really didn't have any problem with their translations until you pointed this out. Hurley is definitely a hack. di Giovanni is great, but sadly pic related is all that I could acquire for Borges at a solid price. It's still pretty good.

What's the consensus of this Borges translation? Which is preferred? I always hear Thomas Norman di Giovanni is preferred, but I was curious about this one. (The Irby Translation)

/lit/, how does one get into an ivy league college school of law? What can I read to make me stand out?

Pic related: my current read.

I just started reading pick related /lit/. It's insane. What the hell was Borges on when he wrote this? Never read anything like it. Thoughts?

It's the only Borges cover I've seen that seems to give me sort of the same feeling as his writing.
