It symbolises that even in the dreariness of life, we can, together, can find reprieve and meaning in kindness with others. Though that moment will be washed away in the stream of time, presenting a tiny blip in the great temporal horizon, there is a feeling that none of that matters. As the rain beats a lazy percussion on the umbrella you both share, time loses its meaning and you enter the pathos of the moment, caring only about the now you both share.
