Who has read Blood Meridian and also thinks Judge Holden was the Devil?

I just finished that. What did you think of it? I personally liked it although McCarthy's writing style is a bit tough to get used to

They're both strong, but I think Berkeley has some history and prestige on its side. Look up the faculty and see if anyone at either school particularly interests you. Just for me personally, I'd rather go to school in San Francisco than LA. Fuck LA.

Gary Stu's of Literary Fiction

I start: Judge Holden, from Blood Meridian

Let's pretend for a moment that they make a film adaptation. Who would be best cast as the Judge?

Tom Noonan? (Ebert's choice.)

Clancy Brown?

Daniel Day-Lewis?

Someone else?

This is a subject I would like to see debated.

I began scalping Mexicans like three months ago and I can't stop. I stopped watching tv and I don't spend much time on 4chan anymore.

Here's how I did it.

-Remember the average person scalps like zero Mexicans a year. If you scalp 5 Mexicans a day, you are 5 Mexicans above the average person

-Don't force yourself to scalp. Commit to scalping 5 Mexicans a day. I swear after three days you'll feel like scalping more and after a month or so you should be scalping 50-100 Mexicans a day for pleasure

-Scalp different kinds of Mexicans at the same time. When I grab a difficult Mexican or one that makes me angry I grab another and switch. This should refresh your head. Keep them around your house. I scalp mainly men and children.

-It isn't a race. Scalping slowly won't make you sleepy that fast. Try to acknowledge what knives are for fast scalping and which aren't.

-Buy the Mexicans. When you buy the Mexicans with your own money you'll feel the need to scalp them to avoid the feel of wasting your money.

-Start with Mexicans that are highly discussed.

Was anyone else seriously affected by this book? I can't stop thinking about it and quite frankly, I'm having trouble sleeping. I keep seeing the judge in my dreams and he's not really doing anything menacing he's just... there.

Anyone else relate or am I just a massive pussy?

Just finished BM. This is the most horrifying character I've ever encountered in film or literature. Honestly, the idea that this man actually existed profoundly creeps me out.

You will not believe how fucking asinine and insipid this guy's Blood Meridian
commentary is. I'm not even hunting for prime examples:

>This chapter was good. Very gruesome, and very violent. There were good similes and lines in this chapter as well. [cites a simile] This just shows how the company is basically riding across the land, not really doing anything exciting or special.

>I like how Glanton still kept the dog from last chapter. I think it shows that even the baddest of the bad needs a companion, and what's a greater companion than man's best friend? ... It kinda shows that this tough guy can have feelings too.

In my opinion, the best part of the book is the last 80 pages.

The landscape (which is a character in itself) takes a back seat, and the book focuses on J. Holden and the Kid's failed attempt at redemption, and later demise at the hands of his former leader.

The part of Blood Meridian which I remember better than any other thing, is when the kid/man finds the old and dry women, whom he tries to help. But it is too late. She had been dead there for years.

The last line sent fucking chills down my spine like never before.

In Blood Meridian...

The Judge was right. War is god. War is the natural state of things.

But because we were brought up to think peace is good and war is bad by a bunch of self-deluded pansies we are now incapable of fighting properly. We may only die like worms in the sun. Slowly, painfully, in agony.

We can only hope the psychopaths inherit the Earth. Maybe then everyone will be so euphoric due to war that there will be no pain as we know it today.
