when Heygul say "no man can surpass his own time, for the spirit of his time is also his own spirit." Does that mean everyone today is on the same level of consciousness of can there be varying levels. I don't think isolated amazonian tribes would be on the same level of spirit as someone from the streets of Hong Kong.

>tfw you will never be a charlatan influencing several generations of thinkers with your impenetrable writing that can be used to justify anything

Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort.

Not him, but...

It isn't that great of a blessing if the next generations will have it even better. I suppose that's just how history works, we can never be satisfied and yet we take pity on past men for what they lacked.

Still, Caesar probably wasn't very upset that he didn't have a decent gaming rig to run loli mods on while reading Lolita.

Hey /lit/ I have a quick question.

I have no background on philosophy (chem major) and tried to read excerpts of Hegel's Elements of Philosophy of Right finding it painful to follow. His work was supposed to be tackled only by advanced or experienced students (or so wikipedia say) but I don't really know what this exactly means. I remember hearing something similar about Nietzsche years ago: that you needed to know what philosophical postulates and thinkers was he going against. Also that you get some insight on Kant's teachings by knowing Hegel and Hume first.

So, howin2philosophy?

Is starting from presocratic schools and keeping forward the only real way to do it?

Hegel seems to get a lot of hype and hate depending who you ask, and some people may say he's irrelevant by now but I just want to try to grasp some of his writings.

Thanks.
