When you think about it, there's no reason to read fiction other than just pure entertainment. If you think you become 'enlightened', what use is that on a day to day basis? If you were an author you could've channeled it in your writing, if you were a cult leader you could've enchanted your followers with nuggets of wisdom, if you're an opinioniated public speaker you could've dabbed on liberals and amass a cluster of fascist fanbase on Youtube. For you, a nothing, the 'enlightnment' that comes from books just sits there pointless, purposeless. Besides, none of the insight you *think* you pick up stays with you more than week after reading the book anyway

Okay let's be fucking real here, I'm on the older end of the spectrum of /lit/ posters at 23, and in highschool I didn't read ANY of my assigned readings. Sparknotes was already a thing, I could get away with reading maybe a page or two to lift a direct quote when I was making a point in a paper. No fucking highschool students are laboriously pouring over tomes assigned by their English teachers. Not only do a million analyses exist on the internet for any book getting assigned in highschool, the books are literally shit like The Hunger Games now. I was assigned The Hunger Games in grade 10. All the young people who claim highschool stole their love of reading are just infantile complainers who couldn't get over the fact they had to read something they didn't choose themselves. And again, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO READ these fucking books! I just didn't read the books I didn't want to read, I went to sparknotes and got 90%+ on everything I wrote. Expectations are so fucking low.

I’m a senior undergraduate who’s spent the last 3 years collecting mountains of information on niche topics. I’ve talked to some professors who specialize in the field and they say I know more than most PhDs. I want to write up what I’m writing, but I’m not sure how to go about it. I suppose I want to ideally publish it in an academic university press but I’m not sure about the specifics. I’ll bring it up with a professor, but I want some insight on how this process works.
