Why were most of the great writers through history atheist?

Who do you think the greatest geniuses of all time are? Not necessarily the people with the highest processing power or speed, but the people whose work makes you wonder how a human being could possibly think in such a unique or creative way.

for me it's a toss up between Nietzsche, Bach/Beethoven, Siddhartha, Zhuangzhi, and Shakespeare

Can someone explain to me the /pol/ posters? How ironic are they? For the longest time I've just taken them to be ironic trolls, but it's gone on way too long, and is way too involved to be so.. but I can never know with the internet. I know some /pol/ poster is going to reply below with "take the redpill, idiot" or some other variation of it, and I welcome you for analysis. And also, are the people responding to the /pol/ posters getting ironically mad? or do you actually believe that they are being sincere and are actually mad? sorry if this isn't literature related, but I thought it was an important meta-thread to help understand the current state of /lit/.

Is he worth reading?

People say you have to see the plays instead.

Anyone else think that he was clearly really fucking smart, but that his plays have none of the "super deep profound truths" that people (hi Bloom) always say they do? I mean I can appreciate his poetic and linguistic brilliance, but the stuff that Shakespeare shows about humanity is pretty typical, not especially illuminating fare

>inb4 le it was deep for his time meme

not an excuse. the point is that people say that he is one of the profoundest writers EVER, including recent times, when he was mostly just high IQ, clever.

I might just be a pleb though, what do you guys think?

Why is he so good /lit/bros?

Finished Julius Caesar and then went to read a bit of As You Like It again. It can't be humanly possible to be this good.

>writes a play so brazenly antisemitic that 400 years later people think it's a critique of antisemitism

Now I truly understand the genius of Shakespeare.

Do you count plays as literature or something else entirely? In terms of authorship is it fair to pit Shakespeare up against Joyce or Dostoevsky?

>Long verbose walls of text not only during soliloquies but during dialog
>A lot of redundant detail in dialog
>Lines obviously stretched to be in iambic pentameter
>Have to read most paragraphs twice to understand what people are talking about
>Archaic language

How am I supposed enjoy this, /lit/? I know the stories are good underneath this.

Why do people consider Shakespeare a writer? He wrote plays intended to be performed at theaters, and he didn't even give a shit about whether or not they were preserved for future generations.

Why do people read him? Is it just a meme?

Do we venerate him because he's simply the best Anglo-Saxon writer and Anglo-Saxon culture dominated the world through British imperialism? Or because he's genuinely one of the greatest writers in any language?
