Seems to be a common expression I heard when growing up in the Midwest. I was told you were supposed to say it because you were sneezing your soul out and the Devil could inhabit your body if you don't say it fast enough or have someone else say it for you. I wasn't trying to imply that all Catholics say that, it's just how I was raised.
