Most novels I pick up immediately put me to sleep by introducing characters who seem totally ordinary, in a scene that seems totally ordinary, giving me no reason to care what happens on the next page. But then a few will start right off with something unusual or mysterious that makes me want to find out what happens. Is my attention span broken?

At least they're being recycled instead of burned. The nazis would've burned them.

if there was one near you, would you attend? would you throw books in the fire? if so which one(s)? what would you wear?

I can't do it anymore, /lit/. I can't pretend I care about books. Literature is and always has been fraudulent, a horrendous imitator of life, a dusty and cracked mirror reflecting nothing. All of us are chasing ghosts who never lived at all, phantoms who promised answers and lessons they never knew themselves. Desperate for any alternative to living, we strain our ears to dead men, thinking ourselves wise and learned for doing so - but there are no answers, the same lies you've been hearing will again be whispered to the next man, over and over, because a world with the possibility of answers is preferable to the one without.

So now that I've come to that realization, what books should I read?

I think it's about time for another book burning. The amount of mass produced, plebeian "literature" that clogs the shelves of any average bookstore is just shameful. 99% of it could burn and no real value would lost.

Yes there was a moral panic around the 19th century about society becoming immoral or degenerate if you well. You may learned of a few of the results in history class

All sound advice save for the penultimate, my friend. People should purchase whatever format they want.
