why do I constantly need breaks reading this? am I retarded? I can read most 19th and 20th century lit fine but this one is just something I have never read before
I can finish some books in a few days but this one I've had for months and yet I'm in the chapter The Burning

>then
>then
>then
>then
does it stop? I'm at around page 50 and while I really enjoy this book I'm bothered by the word "then" starting sentences
am I autistic?

Depends on what you're after. Gormenghast is pure atmosphere and language, and hardly concerned with narrative at all. Events do unfold, but at a glacial pace. Paragraphs of description might transpire between sentences of dialogue, for instance.
