How does one become so insane and full of conviction, despite being intelligent and clever as Don Quixote? And supposing that one could do this on purpose, what are some practical and sustaining ideals to aim for? Even if it costs you your social life. Asking for a friend.

I've been reading Don Quixote for the past few weeks but only read like 12 chapters .

I mean it's enjoyable so far when I read it but it feels like a monster of the week type of show. Where it's just a random numerous adventure every chapter. Is that what it basically is going to be the entire 1000 pages?

ATM I don't feel like I'm getting much out of it lol

I've just been thinking about it a little recently, after I watched a documentary on Picasso. Technology, specifically cameras, were a primary motivator for his modern cubist style. The artists felt what was coming, and knew how radically technology would change things. Literature I think is more robust, I like a lot of post-modern writers and don't think they are as far removed from what I consider to be writing, as painters are from painting.
I realize this isn't a very well thought out idea yet, and I'll admit I haven't really looked much into modern painting anyway, but it's just been on my mind. I have plenty of faith good literature will keep being written.

I finished it and now I feel kind of hollow. Is Don Quixote one of the most tragic figures of all time? I wouldn't even consider his redemption to be of the exceptionally noble variety, but I guess that is in line with the rest of the book.
