If monks can do it then it's possible. You're just making excuses for not being capable. I've always rejected girls who were interested in me except for a while as a teenager just to experience what most people base their identity around. I'd say that celibacy is much better as your mind is more free without having a person to dote on, and you don't lose energy from the releases.

I've read about: mathematical concepts, philosophy, scientific concepts, religion, psychology, history, nutrition, physical fitness, and spiritual practices like shamanism for about a decade now just in my spare time for fun. As a kid I would read about mythology mainly, and would study the dictionary and thesaurus until about high school. I taught myself the Greek alphabet when I was in 5th grade on an electronic dictionary.

I have come to the realization that time spent in meditation is more valuable than knowledge gathered from my experiences with meditating on the Lower Dan Tien. Chi is a very real and physical phenomena that can be manipulated if you devote your life to it. And why would you not want to gather Chi? It leads to spiritual immortality at the end of the day.

It reminds people of their own mortality anon, which they don't enjoy. Same cause of the kind of despondency that is abound when a distant 'celebrity' dies, or what the majority of people feel at funerals of someone they knew/were associated with (but didn't actually like when alive). Foolish people don't like to be reminded of the nature of things, the grief and responses are almost always self-serving in cause, as are the majority of vulgar people's 'charitable acts'

Which translation of The Divine Comedy should I read? I took two years of It*lian in highschool, so I can fumble my way through the book in its original language, I guess, but I'd rather read it in English first.
Anyone have an overview of multiple translations and their differences?

It's barely the size of a single paperback novella. There would need to be some world-shaking upheaval for this thing to stop working and leave me without a way to replace it. I'm talking about a massive EMP or something, in which case sitting down and reading for hours isn't going to be my chief concern.
