Bakker is awesome. "The Prince of Nothing" trilogy is full of interesting characters, grand events and excellent worldbuilding. I found his portrayal of the Holy War to be gritty, realistic and pure EPIC. It truly rules supreme! I thought it was just a meme.

R. Scott Bakker is an author who wrote the Prince of Nothing and the Second Apocalypse series. There is nothing special about the author himself but the books are really good. See the image in >>19533516 to see that he is the most liked author currently in /sffg/.

I'd say, you'd need to give his books a chance to really understand why people like his works so much.

I guess the definition of horrible is subjective. I waved many of those encounters where men chased whores because I know that deep down I'd be like that if I was in a similar situation. Grimdark may enhance or give much more glimpses to the dark sides of humanity. It merely one way to tell a story and a tonal choice by the author. Bakker paints a world full of dread and little hope.
