William Barrett's Irrational Man is the best introduction to the subject I've been able to find. I actually prefer it to the texts he discusses.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a dick. Don't give up on philosophy yet. If you're really having trouble getting into those philosophers I would recommend reading secondary works, which are usually more accessible. For example, try this one by William Barrett. It's probably the best introduction to existentialism and it's easy to follow. I can also recommend Will Durant's story of philosophy, posted above by someone else.
