This is the third Shelley reading thread. This week's thread will cover "To a Skylark," "Adonais," and "Mutability." The full schedule is below:
Week 1: (Already covered) Ozymandias, Song: To the Men of England, The Masque of Anarchy
Week 2: (Already covered) Mont Blanc, Ode to the West Wind, The Cloud, Song of Apollo
Week 3: (That's this week. See above.)
Week 4: Alastor; Or the Spirit of Solitude and Queen Mab
Week 5: Prometheus Unbound
Week 6: Hellas

One minor note for next week's discussion: Remember to read Shelley's notes to Queen Mab! Queen Mab is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating products of his youth, and reading the notes will foster higher quality discussion.

This is the second Shelley reading thread. This week's thread will cover "The Cloud," "Mont Blanc," "Song of Apollo," and "Ode to the West Wind." The full schedule is below:

WEEK 1: (Already covered) The Masque of Anarchy, Ozymandias, and Song: To the Men of Englanf
WEEK 2: (That's this week. See the paragraph above.)
WEEK 3: To a Skylark, Adonais, and Mutability
WEEK 4: Alastor; Or the Spirit of Solitude and Queen Mab
WEEK 5: Prometheus Unbound
WEEK 6: Hellas

Anyway, the last discussion was a pretty good one. I hope this discussion will be even better, since it covers what I consider to be some of Shelley's best shorter poetry.

This is the first discussion thread for the Shelley reading group. These threads are weekly, so the next thread will be Friday.

This week's thread covers "Song: To the Men of England," "Ozymandias," and "The Masque of Anarchy." I'm sure many of you are already familiar with these poems, so if you want to join the discussion, feel free.

The following is a very tentative reading schedule. Feel free to make suggestions if you think some works should be added, removed, or shifted around on the schedule. I'd like to make it official as soon as possible:
WEEK 1: (That's this week. See works already mentioned.)
WEEK 2: Discussion for "Mont Blanc," Song of Apollo," Ode to the West Wind," and "The Cloud"
WEEK 3: Discussion for "To a Sky-Lark," "Adonais," and "Mutability"
WEEK 4: Discussion for "Alastor; Or the Spirit of Solitude," and "Queen Mab"
Week 5: Discussion for "Prometheus Unbound"
Week 6: Discussion for "Hellas"

I'm starting a reading group for Shelley's poetry. Who's interested?

Is it unusual for this guy to not use any specific meter in his poetry? I'm reading one poem of his, and after taking a closer look, I'm spotting spondees and trochees and iambs and maybe even antibacchiuses all in one poem next to each other. It's certainly a good poem, but it's strange. Either my scansion sucks, or he's not using a consistent meter.

Does anyone else feel like caring so much about Aesthetics is just an excuse for not living a normal life? We shouldn't try to model our lives like the authors we read because we aren't getting paid for our writing. It's not some Aesthetic sacrifice to not be a normal person, it's just being weak and a failure. I've seen some bounce back to wanting normal values again on this board, but fuck, it's annoying that things like having a family, wife, kids, is made out to be so ridiculous and pointless. It's just people who can't have those things and are bitter. Reading should be a supplement for meaning to maximize meaning alongside the normal ways of getting it. We shouldn't be 100% devoted to reading all of the time.

Opinions on Shelley? Really enjoy "Mutability" and "Hymn to Intellectual Beauty"
